A Public Affairs Manager, who has outstanding communications skills and a network within the UK government, is needed to join a trade association that represents one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic sectors. Expect to support a wide range of policy and campaign issues that shape how their industry works and secure its future sustainability and growth.
Founded in 1973, they champion the interests of their membership which includes more than 400 independent music companies and the UK’s major record companies – Universal Music UK, Sony Music UK, and Warner Music UK. They also co-own the UK Charts, the BRIT Awards and the Mercury Prize.
Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Manager will support the work of the organisation to make effective contributions to Government, Parliament and other relevant bodies across a wide range of policy issues. On a day-to-day basis you will provide regular monitoring of policy and regulatory developments – including upcoming debates, questions and consultations; provide briefings on policy issues; provide input into consultation responses, including providing summaries, research and drafting submissions; identify and maintain an up-to-date stakeholder map and engagement plan, provide support on policy related questions and much more. In short, you will deliver key support in raising the profile of the business and secure robust and effective political support.
To qualify… You should be a Public Affairs Manager / Policy & Public Affairs Manager / Public Affairs Advisor / Public Affairs Officer / Public Affairs and Policy Executive or similar with a CV that demonstrates:
- Knowledge and understanding of the policy and political landscape in the UK (and ideally some understanding of EU policy-making);
- Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships – ideally with a strong set of Government contacts already in place; track record in engaging with stakeholders at all levels;
- Experience working in a policy, regulatory or public affairs field – whether in house, agency, Parliament or think tank (or other);
- Experience (ideally) will include research and compiling written reports, submissions and briefings, as well as interacting with policy makers;
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills;
- The ability to identify key contacts and build networks across a wide range of stakeholders;
- Experience in understanding complex issues and interpret them into compelling communications and briefing materials;
- The ability to juggle competing demands, with multiple projects running simultaneously;
- A self-starting attitude and confidence to manage solo projects as well as working in a team;
- A ‘can do’ attitude – You are willing to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and get stuck in.
